Hoje, lendo "Continents à la Derive" ("Continental Drift" em inglês) do americano Russell Banks, deixo cair o livro que abre sobre a página 174, embora eu já esteja na 384:



"la vérité des faits, celles que vous pouvez établir à l'aide d'une carte, d'une boussole et d'une règle, n'a strictement aucun effet sur sa conviction ni sur les conséquences."

O irremediável e o imutável da frase me incomodam. Fecho o livro e volto ao trabalho sem saber se aquilo que irei estabelecer como uma verdade exata, racional, científica, me ajudará a mudar minha convicção sobre as coisas. Não as grandes, mas as do dia a dia. Acho que Banks tem razão. Nada assim construído pode ter grande efeito sobre nossas mais profundas convicções.
